Home to more than 64,000 people, Georgetown County has a unique and compelling story to tell. Georgetown Tidal Tales is a program that illuminates the area’s history, culture, and community through the telling of true stories by its residents. Our debut show was January 25, 2025, at the historic Winyah Auditorium in downtown Georgetown, and was a grand success! Our proceeds after costs were presented to Habitat for Humanity Georgetown, SC, on February 28, 2025. Our second show, May 31, 2025, was also a success, and its proceeds went to “A Father’s Place” in Georgetown in July. Our final 2025 show was 9/13/2025–“First on the Scene.” Proceeds were donated to Black River United Way’s “Be Ready! Disaster Preparedness and Recovery” program. Our first show in 2026 was 2/21/2026–“Taking Chances.” Proceeds after costs will be donated to Amazing Journey, which supports the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Reentry Program.

Here’s how Georgetown Tidal Tales works. Georgetown Tidal Tales announces the theme for its upcoming show, and community members “pitch” their stories in a brief email to the program Curator, Janet Fricke. Janet, together with her cohorts, selects 6 storytellers, who come in prepared to tell their true, 5-minute stories (no notes!) at a Zoom rehearsal “workshop,” where the stories will be presented to the other storytellers and finessed.

Next, it’s on to the show! Georgetown Tidal Tales will be presented at Winyah Auditorium to a supportive and local audience at a nominal price–just $10 per ticket. We partner with a local nonprofit whose mission dovetails with the show’s particular theme prior to the show, and again, that nonprofit will receive any proceeds after operating costs are covered.

Throughout the show, you’ll be treated to the fabulous piano tunes of local artist Tom Santopietro. Tom has generously DONATED his musical talents to our shows, and we coulnd’t be more grateful. All in all, Georgetown Tidal Tales will be an evening like no other.

Is it captivating theater? Yes. Is it an evening of powerful community-building? Yes. Will you experience an unprecedented depth and range of emotions? Yes.

We are both honored and proud to announce that Waccamaw Law, LLC has signed on to be our “business buddy” with a generous donation and a super meaningful vote of confidence in our mission. The firm, with Bess Dargan Lochocki at the helm, was instrumental in setting up our non-profit, One Voice Georgetown County, d/b/a Georgetown Tidal Tales. Visit their website, here.

Thank you for your interest in Georgetown Tidal Tales. We look forward to seeing you at our next show.
